With the HIMSS16 conference beginning on Monday in Las Vegas, it seemed completely natural when Elvis made an appearance at the CIO Forum, one of several all-day events held at the first day of the mega healthcare IT conference.

The following gallery highlights several scenes from day one.

Attendees were engaged at the HX360 Innovations Leaders Program.

Attendees checked out presentations at the Nursing Informatics Poster Sessions.

Attendees had the opportunity to ask questions during the Physician IT Symposium on Monday.

The show floor was busy while booths were getting finishing touches for opening day tomorrow.

Todd Dunn, director of innovation at Utah-based Intermountain Healthcare, spoke at today's Revenue Cycle Solutions Summit.

Attendees took notes as the panel discussed the question "where is the money flowing in healthcare IT?" at the Venture+ Forum.

HIMSS held it's inaugural Women in Health IT Roundtable – Empowering Women in Health IT. 

The CIO Forum Welcome Reception was held on Sunday, Feb. 28 at HIMSS16.

Mostashari is the CEO and Founder of Aledade, Inc. and former National Coordinator for Health IT. Today he presented on achieving sustainable clinical innovation.

Willa Fields, DNSc, RN, FHIMSS, speaking at the Nursing Informatics Symposium.

Maryann Cone, RN, MS, NEA-BC, Retired, Sharp Healthcare, was the opening Keynote Speaker at the Nursing Informatics Symposium.

A huge crowd piled in for the first keynote event of the conference.

HHS Secretary Sylvia Burwell announced a major interoperability pledge by top players in the health IT realm.

Dell CEO Michael Dell participated in a fireside chat at the keynote event.

Attendees asked many questions at Monday's symposium events.

HIMSS16 is spread out across multiple floors at the Sands Expo.

Day 1 attendees attended a host of educational events.

While the crowds picked up on Monday, Tuesday's opening of the Exhibition Hall will likely fill the halls even more.

Healthcare Finance Managing Editor Beth Jones Sanborn was covering several educational events Monday.

More attendees stream into the Sands Expo.

The audience waits for Monday's keynote to begin.

It wouldn't be a Las Vagas conference without just a little bit of theatrics.

The HIMSS Cybersecurity Command Center.

The HIMSS Knowledge Centers focus on four areas: Clinical & Business Intelligence, Disaster Preparedness, Population Health and Revenue Cycle.

In true Vegas fashion, Marilyn Monroe made an appearance at the HIMSS16 Opening Reception.
